What is expeDITA #2078

expeDITA is the Winamp of structured content:

• map = album list
• bookmarks = playlist
• search = ranked playlist
• prefs = DSP and equalizers
• themes = skins
• "all" vs "single" = play all vs play current
• renderings = change encoding for intended listening device

In effect, the build approach to structured content generally delivers a final experience. Attempts to add variability into built content still contend with some degree of prior freedoms being removed (sometimes for good reason). The query-based approach with expeDITA basically enables treating topics as individual assets that are within the user's power to select and organize for consumption. expeDITA truly treats every page as page one in that regard.

This comparison of the expeDITA server as a music server points out why companies with DRM interests might, in fact, require a build process in order to manage authetication at build time rather than at reading time, or to produce a known user experience -- think interactive children's book on iPad or LMS training flows, where changing the page order would destroy the perception of the intended result.
